In response to the COVID-19 pandemic where children couldn’t visit us, we created a filmed workshop in 5 parts to be used at home, in the classroom or via e classrooms. This workshop aims to bring the essential essence of The Writers’ Block – curiosity, surprise, immersion – to everyone wherever they are, to support and develop creative writing. We can’t replicate what we offer in person at The Writers’ Block but we can create a different approach.

All students really loved the workshops and worked really well through the videos presented. They loved the different techniques for approaching writing and the opportunity to be really creative and imaginative. The videos were well put together and it built up nicely to help the students create a character.

The workshop has been designed so that teachers can use it at their own pace, responding to the needs of their pupils, planning and timetables. It is divided into sections which can be used as stand-alone sessions, used once or repeated, or which can be used in conjunction with others.

As part of the experience of the workshop, there is a mystery parcel to be posted to your group (UK only), and a set of Teacher’s Notes. There are workshops available for KS2 and KS3. Once you have purchased the workshop suitable for your age group, you can use it across the school, in as many classes as you wish.

The beauty of the workshops were that they catered for and engaged all abilities and even reluctant writers.

There is a special price of only £50 for Cornish schools due to the Crowdfunder which funded the workshop’s initial creation. This price is available until end of March 2022.

For schools outside Cornwall, the workshop is £125.00
