The Writers’ Block is the writing centre for Cornwall, and is both a unique space for writing and a development programme for writers of all ages.

In 2021 we expect to run three Writers’ Rooms, where emerging writers work with experienced professional writers on a genre, creating work with a direct route to audiences.

The first Writers’ Room is focussed on writing for very young children and will take place 25 – 27 May 2021. It will be led by children’s author and publisher Craig Barr Green. This is a paid mentorship opportunity.

We are seeking 3 emerging children’s writers who are interested in creating work for our early years’ Little Story Seekers groups, aged 2-5 years old.  These are stories to be told, rather than picture books, possibly using visual props, paintings etc.

  • Day one – writing exercises, finding themes
  • Day two – writers developing their stories at home
  • Day three – sharing, feedback, re-writes
  • Day four (date tbc in June) – try out stories with invited families and/or pre-school children at The Writers’ Block

Days one and three will be led by Craig Barr Green and will be held face to face at The Writers’ Block in Cornwall College in Pool, Redruth.

You will be paid a fee of £400 to attend the workshops, write new work and attend the sharing session.

During lockdown we have created story videos for our Little Story Seekers. If you would like a taste of how our storytellers work with children, please view the videos on www.shorturl.at/iwFLR  or search ‘Little Story Seekers’ on YouTube.

To apply please send an expression of interest and a sample of your work for children to [email protected] by midnight 9 May 2021.
