This week was Children’s Art Week with the theme of Creative Writing, and our team worked in partnership with Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange, as well as Kresen Kernow, to produce some fantastic workshops for young people.

Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange offered three free downloadable workshops over three weeks. Click on the links download each workshop.

Week one: TIM RIDLEY: DRAWING ANIMALS USING A CONTINUOUS LINE

News reports and social media gave us images of all kinds of creatures venturing into cities and towns the world over. A downloadable activity sheet with film links explores sketching animals from found images.

Week two:  ALICE MAHONEY: EXPLORING IMAGINARY WORLDS THROUGH SOUND

Soundscapes will help you create landscapes through drawing and collage.

Week three: POLLY ROBERTS: A CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

We will explore how our relationship with the world around us may have changed over the last few months. ‘Imagination firelighters’ will kick-start the process as you dive into nature to discover its secrets, merging real life details with those from your imagination.

Do share your artworks or writing with us on our online library

In the quiet suburban landscape of Penzance during lockdown, a peacock wanders along roofs and finally settles in the sun for a sleep.

Kresen Kernow featured a film created by The Writers’ Block in response to their John Couch Adams exhibition. Check it out here and give a poem a go!
