This workshop offers you the chance to consider your writing off the page, focusing on the performance element of poetry, commonly referred to as Spoken Word. The workshop will offer each person the chance to create/ edit material and share their work within the workshop. The workshops will consider poetry, within many forms, including hip hop. Please bring some material, or simply appear, open to everyone and all levels.

Megan Chapman AKA MCMC Spoken is a Cornish-grown poet and performance artist. Currently London’s Word4Word slam winner and last year’s winner of Cornwall Contemporary Poetry Festival’s Poetry Slam, she has opened up festival stages including Glastonbury and Womad. With a background in Youth and Community work, Meg is known for regular performances at Cornish gigs and literary events and delivers workshops across a range of settings, empowering individuals to find their voice and bring it forth onto the stage. Her recent gigs include a set at Proud Eden, with upcoming tour dates continuing with Waterstones in Truro. She was featured in ‘A Space to Write’ published in 2015, a book exploring the writing spaces of Cornwall’s best-loved wordsmiths.

She writes about social injustices, class, gender, and societal pressures, such as the expectation of providing a grandchild and has chosen not to thus far. Her writing hopes to open up conversations resonate with the audience, with the hope of offering human connections, and voicing shared thoughts. Capturing the voices of the unheard.  This year’s performance will capture an extensive performance focusing on showcasing work across a decade in her local county.
