Young Writers Group

After our last two fantastic sessions with the Young Writers we are looking ahead to our final session of the term. This takes place on December 1st at the Writers Block from 10.00 – 15.00. As this will be our third session together we’d like to culminate with a sharing of the wonderful writing that is being produced. Family and friends are welcome at the Writers Block from 14.00 and we’ll dedicate an hour to an informal sharing and tea drinking celebration in which you’ll be dazzled by words surrounding the theme of the Changing Seasons.

If the young writers would like to develop any pieces they’ve already begun or create new material around the theme of Changing Seasons during the next few weeks it would be great. Olivia, Max and Casey – our session leaders – would be delighted to hear them on December 1st. This is not essential as we know how busy everyone is.

On a practical note; this is a longer session so we ask that young people are provided with a packed lunch to see them through the day.

Please pass on these great writing exercises from published writers we have the pleasure of working with at The Writers’ Block; Writing Resources. There’s also a great way for young writers to submit their work to our Library and have it shared on The Story Republic website.

In partnership with The Minack Theatre, KEAP and The Writers’ Block host this regular, monthly Young Writers’ Group.  It is aimed at young people from 12-16 who have a passion for writing and reading.  It is a safe and special space for them to be writers and to develop and refine their craft.

Each session will be led by writers and story republicans Max Webb and Olivia Lowry.  Although they will cover many aspects of creative writing, from stories to poetry, the overall focus will be on writing for performance.

The sessions are held at The Writers’ Block in Cornwall College in Pool. The cost is £7.50 a session. 

We are creating a network of young writers to feed off one another, get their visions into words and hook into Cornwall’s rich cultural life.
