Stage Writing for Commission

Stage Writing for Commission is an exciting annual three-day training programme for emerging writers for the stage. This initiative was designed to nurture new talent by providing the skills, time, and support needed to create compelling, original short plays.

Led by a professional playwright the programme guides participants through the process of developing a treatment and writing sections of dialogue to write for commission. By the end of the course, writers present their works-in-progress to the Minack Theatre directors. The programme not only offers guidance and feedback but also includes opportunities to refine scripts by working directly with young performers.

Last years programme provided a unique chance for emerging writers to refine their craft, collaborate with others, and have their work commissioned by the Minack Theatre for season.

“I got so many ideas over the three days! Between Jane’s excellent creative prompts, the spaces we were working in, and the insights of my peers, I think I’ve got enough interesting ideas to fuel my writing for the next decade at least.”

“Sharing work throughout with the other writers was so beneficial to my development as I love to work collaboratively. It was a great opportunity to network with other writers and also be able to share our work with external directors/writers/actors and hear their feedback on what we had created.”
