Writers Rooms

The Writers’ Block Writers’ Rooms are each focused on a specific genre. These unique programs are designed to support emerging writers by pairing them with experienced professionals, providing a clear path for their work to reach audiences.

Bill’s Attic Writers’ Room

The Writers’ Block hosted the Bill’s Attic Writers’ Room in November 2025, led by Annamaria Murphy and inspired by the extraordinary archive of Bill Mitchell.

Across three intensive workshops at The Ladder, writers Sonia Thakurdesai, Rosie Hadden and Hanna Kubbutat-Byrne explored Bill’s imaginative world of objects, sketches, ephemera and theatrical ideas to create new experimental writing.

Weather Station: Climate Poetry Writers Room

Led by poet and academic John Wedgwood Clarke, we invited three emerging writers to explore how poetry can act as a kind of weather station.

From Redruth to Liskeard to Devonport, Stories of Stuff captures stories of communities as well as providing mentoring for emerging writers in the art of story gathering.
