The Writers’ Block is looking for six emerging  writers living in South East or North Cornwall who are  interested in short form stories for re-telling, performance and print.

The eventual writing brief will be to produce short form stories based on objects and verbatim stories from community groups. These will be performed and recorded by The Story Republic and printed onto postcards to be distributed in town and potentially curated into an exhibition.

Successful applicants will receive 2 days mentoring and workshops from Annamaria Murphy the Artistic Director of The Writers’ Block who has written memorably for BBC Radio 4, The Story Republic, Kneehigh, Stuff and Nonsense, Bagas degol and most recently All that Glitters, a collaboration with the dancer Tom Jackson Greaves. You will attend local community groups and visit arts and heritage sites to gather stories.

You will receive a fee of £500

Activity will run between October – mid November with performances in early December 2023.

  • First meeting date is 24 October
  • Between 24 Oct and 4 November Community visits (some flexibility here)
  • Second meeting date is 7 November
  • Deadline for finished writing is 13 November
