– The Writers’ Room Redruth –

The Writers’ Block is looking for 2 emerging professional writers living in or around Redruth who are interested in short form stories for re-telling and performance.

The eventual writing brief will be to produce short form stories based on objects and collected verbatim stories from community groups to create a pop up installation of gathered stories.

The launch of the project – Stories of Stuff, The People’s Collection Project Redruth – is happening on St Piran’s day 5 March in Redruth.  Part Antique Roadshow part story swap, local people and community groups will be welcomed to The Writers’ Block at The Former Redruth Library and invited to share objects that have meaning for them and tell their related story. As story ‘curators’ the writers will be there to listen and record the stories that will be the bedrock of the installation.

Successful applicants will receive writing mentoring from renowned Cornish writer Annamaria Murphy (Kneehigh, Radio 4).

Writers will receive a fee of £300 for 1 day mentoring and workshop on 1 March, 1 day story gathering on 5 March, and one day writing up in own time – 3 days in total.
